GReddy Turbos: Miata Turbo Kits

One of the biggest trades in the car industry right now is in modification. Everybody wants the slickest, fastest, hottest car on the road. Many people would say that the Mazda Miata is already the perfect roadster out there, but there are hundreds of mods available for the Miata Turbo. One of the most popular is the Miata turbo kit.
The Miata turbo takes a beautiful road car, and turns it into a powerful street machine.
One of the top turbo manufacturers is GReddy Turbos. GReddy Turbos makes electronic boost controllers that manage the boost level of turbo charged engines like those in a Miata turbo kit. As an example, the standard street Miata produces around 90-100 horsepower on its own. A Miata Turbo boosted with GReddy turbo kits will clock about 130-140 horsepower. The GReddy Turbo kit doesn't provide as much horsepower as some of its more supercharged competitors, but it's a cheaper aftermarket alternative, and provides all the boost a heavily modded Miata is certain to need.
A Mazda turbo kit will usually run for a few thousand dollars. A cheaper aftermarket, bolt-on GReddy turbo kit from Alamo Motorsports will run about $1,320. This will provide more than enough torque enhancement for standard racing and street performance. More heavily modified or powerful models of the GReddy turbo kit end up costing several thousand dollars, though for those who love to race or show off their Miata Turbo, it's more than worth the price of upgrading the engine.
One thing that's important to remember when operating a heavily modded Miata Turbo, is to install a heat shield onto the hood of the car. GReddy turbo kits are installed high under the hood of the Miata Turbo, and the Miata Turbo kit gives off an intense amount of heat. To avoid overheating, or rusting out the hood, make sure that the extra heat being thrown off by the turbo is able to be distributed and diffused under the hood.
There are also a few other issues to keep in mind before modding up a Miata Turbo. First, make sure that the GReddy turbo kit being installed doesn't interfere with any factory installed turbochargers, as a superhigh boost could overwork the engine and render a very nice and expensive car utterly useless. Also, make sure that it doesn't adversely affect the timing control of fuel injectors, as again, this can lead to engine failure. GReddy Turbos offers a timer that can be installed, which controls an engine's cool down time to help give both the engine and the turbocharger a longer, better performance.
As cars and mods get faster, cheaper, and more powerful there's no doubt that mods like the GReddy Turbo kit will become even more popular. The Miata is a hot, flashy car right now, and there's plenty of extra power to be squeezed out with a Miata turbo kit. With the right steps taken to ensure that the GReddy turbo kits don't overheat or overwork the engine to failure, the boost in torque and horsepower even with the cheapest mods available can give a noticeable boost in performance. For anyone looking into turning their standard Miata into flashy, street ready Miata Turbo, the GReddy turbo kits are a great option.
